#71 – Enter a contest

Last week we entered one of those loop contests on Instagram, and guys, we won!  I was pretty pumped.  The give-away featured nine awesome Queen West boutique vendors involved in This Little Piggy’s upcoming Love Market and the winner could choose a gift certificate from the store of their choice.  It was a pretty awesome treat in the middle of dreary winter week! We are super excited to go for a mini shopping spree at the store of our choice!

Details: The Love Market is hosted by This Little Piggy Shop on Saturday, February 7th, and features The Kitten and the Bear (you know we have some serious love for them), Glory Hole Doughnuts, Uncle Peter’s Man, Ollie Jones, Mini Souls, Rumour and Gus, Bridge the Bump and Deidre Wicks.

#85 – Create a reading nook for Henry

I bought Henry his first book when I was seventeen and an exchange student in Japan; the Hungry Caterpillar in Japanese.  Since then, every country I’ve visited, I bought a children’s book for my future kids, and when Adam came along, he started doing it as well.  So little Henry has books from Japan, Australia, Ireland (x2), France (x2) and South Africa.  Add to that the incredible generosity of our friends and family, plus the crate of books Adam’s parents gifted him at Christmas, Henry has quite the library.

We just installed some extra ledges to hold them all, and bought a couple throw pillows to make a little nook for him (more for our comfort than his at this point!).

#6 – Try Bunner’s cinnamon buns

For the past couple years, Bunner’s cinnamon buns have landed on BlogTO’s best cinnamon bun in the city list.  Since they are both vegan and gluten free, this seems like quite a feat, since the deliciousness of cinnamon buns lies in the gooey buttery goodness and cream cheese frosting.  So of course, we wanted to test them out ourselves.

This morning Adam’s mom and two of his aunts came over to visit with Henry, so we figured it was the perfect opportunity for a wider taste test.  Overall, they were deemed very tasty; not overly sweet, and without that obvious gluten free taste and texture.

#6---Bunner's

Details: Bunner’s has two locations, one in the Junction, another in Kensington Market.  Information can be found here.  The full BlogTO Best Of list can be found here.

#5 – Visit the High Park Zoo

High Park Zoo may not be as glam as other city parks’ zoos (I’m looking at you New York and Chicago), but it’s small and earnest, and the little kids toddling through are still delighted.  We walked through as part of our Joyce Family Winter Classic day.   I do love that the zoo has been kept open largely from donations from the local community after multiple attempts to close it down, though in 2014 the City resumed funding it.

#4 – Joyce Family Winter Classic

This Christmas, my parents forbid us from getting them any presents.  So my brothers, Sam, Adam and I got together and planned a day of family fun instead; dubbed the Joyce Winter Classic.  Below is the itinerary we gifted them on Christmas, and a few photos from the day!

#4---Joyce-Family-Winter-Classic

Details: We started our day at Cafe Novo, a great local cafe just outside High Park.  We went for a stroll through High Park, including the zoo (more photos from that coming soon!), and then after a big meal, we went to the Samuel Smith Skating trail.
