#38 – Give back

Today is Giving Tuesday, so we thought it was the perfect day to post about some of the organizations we are supporting this year.  There are so, so many worth while orgs and so, so much need that it is so easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless.  But I think as long as we help where and when and how we can, we can make a little dent in the need in the world.

This year, we have supported (either by financial donation or otherwise);

The New Mom Project – a Toronto based charity that supports marginalized families with basic necessities to help them through the first stretch of parenthood.  They accept donations of gently used baby clothing, infant toys & books, diapers, wipes, blankets, unopened bath products.

Ronald McDonald House – providing a home for families with children receiving long-term care at SickKids Hospital.  There are so many ways to help, but we check their Other Ways to Help page often to see if we can provide anything they are currently needing.

Lifeline Syria – a Toronto charity welcoming and supporting refugees into Toronto.

UN Refugee Agency – Provides life-saving aid to refugees around the world.

WWF-Canada – is Canada’s largest international conservation organization.  We choose to symbolically “adopt” a species which came with a plush animal and certificate which we had made out in Henry’s name.  He’s too young now, but it’s important to us he is involved in giving back to our community and the wider world.  Any donation made today (December 1, 2015) will be matched.

Things We Love: Giving Tuesday

After the craze of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, don’t forget about Giving Tuesday!  We jumped the gun a little and did some of our donating last week.  Check out the Giving Tuesday website for ideas on how you can give back!

#4 – Give back

We feel so thankful that little Henry arrived safely and healthy, and wanted to pick charities that will help babies, children and their families that may not be as lucky.

We choose to donate to SickKid’s Get Better Gifts campaign; we picked a visit from a service animal and books for the children’s library.  We also donated to Plan Canada’s Gifts of Hope campaign; we picked a newborn check up and school essentials for a child.

#60 – Do something for a charity

In honour of Giving Tuesday, here is how we have given back this year;

Through Free the Children, we bought a goat for a family as part of their alternative income and livelihood program.  You can browse their catalogue of different ways to make a difference here.

After growing out my hair for the past year, I donated 12 inches to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program.  Information about the program and how to donate can be found here.

I sent 4 old pairs of prescription glasses to Third World Eye Care Society.  Information about the charity and how to donate can be found here.

We donated a stack of DVDs to the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto.  The Wish List for the Toronto location can be found here.

Through SickKids’ Get Better Gifts program, we paid for animal therapy time for a child at SickKids Hospital.  All available gifts can be found here.

Finally, we donated to the African Wildlife Foundation.  Betty White is currently matching donations made before December 20 (she’s an awesome lady!)
